In Young and Chronic, Cara introduced the “Color Scale of Pain Terror” as a way to describe what numbers and smiley faces never could—the unpredictability and urgency of living with chronic pain. Borrowing from the language of terror-threat scales, it gave Cara a way to communicate how quickly pain could escalate and disrupt daily life. This companion journal brings that concept into practice, offering readers and clients a structured, color-coded system to track intensity, volatility, and impact while creating a record they can share with providers or use for self-reflection.
