Cara has lived with chronic pain and symptomatic hypermobility since childhood. Long before a college car accident at 22, there were clear signs of joint laxity and fatigue. The accident intensified those challenges and led to years of subluxations, muscle spasms, and dismissal from providers who could not explain why her body would not cooperate. Learning to navigate an unpredictable body and a healthcare system that often left her unheard, she developed the resilience strategies that now shape both her life and her work.
In addition to her writing, Cara is a licensed occupational therapist and founder of Rich Health Solutions, where she provides therapeutic consultation and pain management support. She holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has taught occupational therapy assistant students in neurology and psychosocial dysfunction and completed advanced training in HeartMath biofeedback for stress, pain, and anxiety management.
Before her healthcare career, Cara earned a Master of Science in Television from Boston University and was a member of the Writers Guild West while pursuing opportunities in Los Angeles. Storytelling has always been her through line—whether writing scripts, teaching students, or advocating for patients. Young and Chronic is her debut nonfiction book, blending memoir and advocacy to validate the invisible complexities of chronic illness and to offer tangible strategies for resilience.
